Normally, I do the whole write a novel in a month thing for November. Instead, this year I've decided to write 15 stories inspired by writing prompts I've chosen before the end of the year.
If you want to participate, I'd love to have you join me!
The Rules
The Challenge starts October 20 (first post must be by midnight on October 26)
Each story will be 1,500 to 10.000 words
Prompts will be selected ahead of time (posted below)
Prompts will be done in the order listed here
Post at least one story each week
No more than 2 rewrites/edits per story (not including spell check)
Stories may be a continuation of others, but are limited to only 3 challenges
The Prompts
I prefer prompts that ask a question, so that's what I looked for. You can use these or find your own! I'd love to see what you come up with.
Also, I use 'you' in most of these prompts to help me put myself into the shoes of the main character, but the POV will be whatever feels right. I encourage you to vary your POVs if you're doing this with me.
On Halloween, a witch kidnaps you. Why? What are they planning to do with you?
A prince needs rescuing. This is a turn of events since you are used to being the damsel in distress. How do you save him?
At the edge of town there is a tree that is hundreds of years old. Legend has it that on Halloween, the tree comes to life. What story does the tree tell you this year? Why does it tell you that story?
You can heal everyone and anything, but there's one drawback: something else must take on the damage that is healed and you cannot choose who or what takes the damage on. How do you use your ability and who, or what, do you lose in the process?
After the rain, there is a rainbow. You follow it to the end, but there's no leprechaun or pot of gold. What do you find?
Every witch is born with a blessing and a curse. What are yours? How do you use them?
At the end of winter, the snow melts away, except one pile in the backyard. You go to examine the pile and find it's a dragon. What do you do?
You find a river rock. It is smooth and shiny and has a special power. What magic does it possess?
You've been seeing someone for almost a year. It's Christmas Eve and they tell you they're Santa Claus. Do you believe them?
You are the most unlucky person alive. How do you create your own luck?
You save the world, but you lose everyone and everything you love in the process. How do you cope? Was it worth it?
It's been ten years since you've been home for the holidays. What brought you back this year? Will you return next year?
You think you're the hero in the story, but you discover you're actually the villain. What actions got you here? How do you justify your actions?
You're a famous writer. There is a knock on your door. It's your main character's love interest. What conversation do you have?
They say you should never meet your heroes. Santa Claus is your personal hero and you got to meet him this year. Why do you wish you never met him?
